Missouri sits at the crossroads of the nation, and every type of transportation finds it way to and through the state. Although the roads of the Show Me State are generally safe, drivers must rely on each other to avoid injury, damage and death. Trucks can be a risk factor, as any collision with a large vehicle usually has consequences.
A serious accident killed a Maryville woman and injured five other people when a truck hit the back of her car on Interstate 44. Both vehicles were headed eastbound on the limited-access highway when the collision happened. The 55-year-old victim’s car was pushed into another, which overturned and struck a pickup truck.
The driver and two passengers in the overturned car were transported to a local hospital with moderate or minor injuries. A passenger driving with the woman who was killed was also injured. The driver of the pickup truck escaped unharmed.
The 33-year-old Troy-based driver of the truck involved in the first collision was arrested by Phelps County authorities at the scene, where his truck came to rest blocking the outer lane of the interstate. He may be charged with involuntary manslaughter and four counts of second-degree assault for his role in the death and injuries.
Victims of tractor-trailer crashes and the survivors of those killed in truck accidents have the right to seek financial damages in a civil lawsuit against the parties at fault.
