Our Mission

In 1993, David L. Steelman and Stephen F. Gaunt formed the firm of Steelman, Gaunt & Horsefield Attorneys at Law with the goal of providing exceptional legal representation at a location in Rolla, Missouri accessible to clients in the Central Missouri area. We opened an office in Missouri in 2000, so we now have two locations in mid-Missouri to better serve our clients. In 2004, Patrick Horsefield joined in as a Partner. Together, the attorneys at Steelman, Gaunt & Horsefield now have more than 50 years of experience. Steelman, Gaunt & Horsefield's attorneys are all licensed to practice throughout Missouri and are available to travel, as needed, to handle cases in the Kansas City, St. Louis, and southern areas of the state, as well as central Missouri.

Our mission is to provide our clients with quality legal services and to ensure that each of our clients has the best legal representation possible. With more than 50 years of combined legal experience to offer our clients, we work hard to help our clients recover financially when they have suffered traumatic losses physically and/or financially due to the negligent actions of others.

We represent people in the following areas of law: personal injury, motor vehicle accidents, accidents involving trucks and/or tractor-trailers, workers' compensation, products liability, wrongful death and nursing home neglect and abuse. We also represent individuals in the areas of criminal defense, traffic violations, insurance law and employment law.

A History of Accomplishment

We are pleased to be recognized by our peers as one of the premier law firms in the area. The Martindale-Hubbell law directory has given us the highest possible rating as a law firm, an indication of very high to preeminent legal ability and very high general ethical standards. We are also included in the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers^TM.

Collectively, we have achieved excellence in a wide range of areas, including certification by the National Board of Trial Advocacy in Civil Trial Advocacy, membership in the American Association for Justice, the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, and numerous other legal boards and organizations. We have provided instruction at Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys seminars, served on Missouri Bar committees, elected to leadership positions in the Missouri General Assembly, and selected to judicial clerkships for the Missouri Supreme Court and the Missouri Court of Appeals. Recognition for our efforts is not important, but the excellence it represents is priceless. Since the firm began in 1993, we have successfully litigated cases against the largest firms in the state of Missouri. And we have experience handling serious cases with severe injuries. We have handled numerous cases with settlements or verdicts well in excess of $100,000, including ten settlements or verdicts of $2 million or more. While each case is different, and past success is no guarantee of future results, our clients can rest assured that we will always fight to protect their financial future.
